Apple Reports 5.2 Million iPhones Sold, Same as Total Deaths in the Congo

What a strange coincidence. Looking through their third quarterly reports, Apple stated that they have sold 5.2 million iPhones, which is, ironically, the same number of people who have died in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It's chilling and if you think about it, it's like every iPhone people buy, one person in the Congo dies. The war on "Conflict Minerals", the same minerals (tin, tantalum, and tungsten) that make up the iPhones themselves, results in the violence and the deaths of the Congolese citizens. OmniPeace in Glamour Magazine

OmniPeace CEO Mary Fanaro was recently featured in a Glamour Magazine article. For all you fashionistas and trendsetters out there, she talks about how to wear a t-shirt and look stylish. Here is the article....

Expert Tips on How to Make a Simple Tee Look Super Stylish

Giorgio Armani once said "I consider the t-shirt to be the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet," though ten bucks says he wasn't thinking of all the "That's What She Said" and Superbowl XXXXL crewnecks out there. We asked Mary Fanaro--style maven, good samaritan and total T-shirt goddess--to show us how to wear all those summery logo and statement tees without hitting any DON'T speed bumps.

LA-based Fanaro is the brains and beauty behind OmniPeace, a line of hip t-shirt, boots and accessories brand that donates a large percentage of it's proceeds to promoting education, human rights and ending extreme poverty in Africa. That means she's as thoughtful and she is stylish--a tough combo to beat. (And we're not the only ones who think so: Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Aniston and Sheryl Crow are all fans of Mary and her OmniPeace threads.) Here's what Fanaro had to stay about wearing tees, in style:

1. Before thinking about the fashion statement you are making think
about the personal statement you are making
: be sure you are wearing a logo
tee from a brand and mission you believe in.

2. Dress it up. Wear it under a tuxedo blazer, skinny jeans, and
great heels - this gives you more options for when to wear it so you can
represent your favorite brand in multiple situations

3. Make your logo tee your own. Show your individual style by belting
it, cutting off sleeves, go for an oversized tee, cinch it, and wear it as a
dress - just as the logo you choose is a statement, so should be the way you
wear it.

Peter Facinelli and the City of Joy Healing Center

Twilight Star Peter Facinelli gathered a large crowd of teens and parents alike at the Charleston Town Center in West Virginia to promote reading amongst the youth. He also took some time out of his meet and greet to speak about the City of Joy, a healing center and safe community for survivors of violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He held an autograph and photo session for those who attended. A portion of the proceeds from the autographs and photos with Peter Facinelli went to OmniPeace, whose Stamp Out Violence Against Women and Girls of the Congo campaign benefits the City of Joy Healing Center. OmniPeace has launched a nation-wide fashion campaign, “Stamp Out Violence Against Women and Girls of the Congo,” to raise awareness and funds as part of an international movement to end the violence against them.

OmniPeace will donate 25% of all proceeds from the OmniPeace Congo line to Eve Ensler (activist and author of
The Vagina Monologues) & UNICEF’s "Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource" campaign which highlights these atrocities being committed. This donation will help benefit the creation of the City of Joy, a healing center and safe community for survivors of violence. This will be the first time in retail history that a designer will sell t-shirts that incorporate original artwork from victims of violence.

The line will also feature hang tags that double as postcards addressed to President Barack Obama, imploring him to take action against these wide-scale atrocities and to “Stamp Out Violence Against Woman and Girls of the Congo.” Consumers are encouraged to mail the tags to Obama in order to bring further awareness to these issues and to bring about peace in the Congo.

The OmniPeace brand is favored by A-list celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Beckham, Eva Longoria, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani and Zac Efron.
